The CESS team offers a wide range of comprehensive services in the field of energy and the optimal operation of integrated energy systems for the decarbonisation of the energy system and the acceleration of the energy transition
» We have developed a comprehensive model to attain a cost-effective transition to a low/net-zero carbon future tailored specifically for gas and electricity operators as well as municipal utilities.
In this context, we employ our advanced optimisation tools in integrated analysis of electricity and gas/hydrogen systems and meet the following tasks:
- Exploring the role of hydrogen versus alternative decarbonization pathways
- Providing quantitative insights to inform technical, economic and policy decisions for a resilient and low-carbon energy future
- Cost-effective transition to a low/net zero carbon future, specifically tailored for gas/hydrogen, electricity and municipal utilities
- Techno-economic analysis to improve the resilience of energy systems
- Quantifying the value of hydrogen as energy storage during periods of low demand and surplus renewable energy generation, ensuring security of supply through green hydrogen production
- Investigation of the impact of flexibility options such as demand-side response, storage facilities and power-to-gas from the system requirement perspectives
- Investigating the role of different hydrogen production technologies in meeting future emissions targets, such as:
› Electrolyzers for the production of green hydrogen
› SMR/ATR to produce blue hydrogen
› Biomass gasification (with carbon capture) for hydrogen production
- Identifying bottlenecks in RES-based hydrogen transport networks
- Assessing the role of the hydrogen linepacks in improving resilience and managing sudden changes in hydrogen demand
- Assessing the role of gas network infrastructure flexibility, such as multi-directional compressors and storage facilities, in supporting power systems
- Analysis of hydrogen transport through existing gas infrastructure at different pressure levels
- Quantifying hydrogen storage capacity and determining compressor locations to ensure the security of supply
- Studying the impact of distributed hydrogen-based power plants on the interaction between gas/hydrogen and electricity systems
- Ability to simulate loads or shocks in gas/hydrogen or electricity systems
